THE SOUTH AFRICAN POST OFFICE GETTING READY TO IMPLEMENT DATA CUSTODIANSHIP

The Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services (DTPS) has issued an intention to introduce the Postal Services Amendment Bill, 2018 in the National Assembly. The DTPS arranged an information sharing session between the Directorate: National Spatial Information Framework and the South African Postal Office (SAPO). The draft Postal Services Amendment Bill recognizes SAPO as the coordinator of the National Addresses Data Set and also aligns with the principles of custodianship as outlined in the Spatial Data Infrastructure Act, 54 of 2003. The purpose of the session was to share expertise on processes to be followed to appoint SAPO as the Base Data Set Coordinator of the Address Data Set. The session was help on the 6th of February 2019, at the DTPS offices and was well attended by senior man-agers from both SAPO and DTPS.
